Monday 3rd - Friday 7th July 2017
This week was the last week of Year 5’s growing up talks – and it ended fittingly with a visit from ‘a mum’ to tell us all about child birth, and the trials and joys of bringing up a young baby. She gave a great talk and answered loads of fantastic questions from the children.
Monday 26th - Friday 30th June 2017
We have been fortunate this week to have had a visit from some staff and pupils from the Lancaster School.
The pupils talked about themselves and the good things that are happening for them at the Lancaster School.
It made us all think about how every single one of us is different from each other in some way, and how we must learn to respect each other for the way that we each are – for each one of our varied strengths and each one of our varied weaknesses.
A really valuable life lesson.
Monday 19th - Friday 23rd June 2017
Another exciting lesson in Atlantic 5.
Teaching meditation – a calming moment.
Monday 12th - Friday 16th June 2017
Year 5 children at chef school!
Cookies being created, cooked and then eaten and enjoyed by all.
Thank you to all those who helped.
Monday 5th - Friday 9th June 2017
Year 5 have decided to make some biscuits/cookies.
We thought that we should test some out first of course, otherwise we wouldn’t know what would be good to make!
I think that we all enjoyed it…..
We are now all looking forward to making them next week.
Monday 22nd - Friday 26th May 2017
Year 5 have been having great fun creating their own performance poetry.
They have studied a variety of poems and then made a choice to work in a group to create a poem in the style of one that they enjoyed.
Every child in Year 5 produced a great performance poem which they shared with the rest of the year group on the school’s outside stage.
Monday 15th - Friday 19th May 2017
Year 5 have been investigating the creation and use of flow charts. We have all learnt the basic symbols and their uses. We have used a program called Flowol 4 which enables us to control movements and lights in mimics on the computer. It has been great fun, and we are all very adept at the basics now.
Monday 8th - Friday 12th May 2017
Year 5 have recently been studying how to write persuasive letters in greater detail.
To help year 5 Mrs. Livermore’s son (who runs the breakdance afterschool club at Leigh North Street Primary School, and who is world known for his skills in breakdancing) came into school to tell us all about the history of breakdancing and how it can help with; concentration, happiness, anti-bullying and much more. Year 5 were so persuaded by his talk that it was decided that letters should be written to Mr. Hautler and the Secretary for Education to try to persuade them to include breakdancing in the curriculum!
We will wait and see the result!
Monday 1st - Friday 5th May
Year 5 were lucky enough to catch our caretaker on a break from his hard work to ask him lots of questions about water usage in the school as part of our Geography study about water.
Pacific 5 were also lucky to catch up with the other two year 5 classes and visit the airport at Southend.
Are these some female pilots of the future??

This week Year 5 have enjoyed the mathematical challenges set by Tom from the Puzzle Company…
Even when you thought you had completed it Tom always seemed to have a harder task to do with the same piece of apparatus!

Enjoying mathematics – OBVIOUSLY!
Monday 27th February - Friday 3rd March 2017

The Highway Man
Monday 30th January - Friday 3rd February 2017
What a brilliant session we had this week looking at the moon, and visualising what it might look like in the future when we inhabit it – all through the eyes of the ‘Google Expedition Experience’.
Thank you Mrs. Knight the school’s IT technician for organising it.
Monday 23rd - Friday 27th January 2017
Toad’s caravan construction began this week, thank you to the help of Felix’s dad who supplied all the materials and chopped all the wood. All the year 5 classes will be involved. We hope that it will, when completed, give a real insight into ‘getting right into a character’, and enable us all to write more detailed and interesting stories.
Monday 16th - Friday 20th January 2017
Recently we have been fortunate to have the follow up lessons from our WHSB Science visits that we made before Christmas. We have had great fun doing ‘dangerous and interesting’ things!
Monday 9th - Friday 13th January 2017
This week we have been looking at our lives and what we would like to achieve in them.
What hope in the future for families, jobs, friends, hobbies, where to live and achievements to make.
We wrote our hopes and dreams for our futures on leaves and hung them on the ‘Tree of Hope’
