The Cove         

Leigh North Street Primary School is excited to introduce a new nurture classroom – The Cove.

This inclusive/specialised classroom is designed to provide a safe and calming environment for children who may require additional support in developing their language, social, emotional and learning skills. The provision will also include opportunities for outdoor learning, sensory activities and visits to local places of interest.

The Cove will provide support for children already part of LNSPS. Staff working in The Cove will approach parents directly should they feel, their children may benefit from this support.

This short-term provision will offer some of our younger children the necessary tools and strategies to prepare them better for mainstream school  - ultimately joining their mainstream year group classroom full time. 

The Cove is designed to support children experiencing social and emotional challenges. Children attending The Cove will have access to this provision through an individual, tailored timetable.

LNSPS celebrates its approach to nurture and pastoral care in the classroom and is underpinned by our pastoral team. The Cove will further ensure children can build confidence, self-esteem, and a positive attitude towards learning. Support will involve a range of short-term interventions to help children develop the skills they need to thrive in a mainstream setting.

These may include;

• Social and emotional development through activities to help children understand and manage their emotions, build positive relationships, and develop empathy.

• Providing opportunities to practise verbal/non-verbal communication and improve listening skills.

• Providing a structured, predictable environment, the classroom can help children feel safe and secure. Additionally, the focus on social and emotional development will help all children learn to interact effectively with others and manage their emotions.
